A pre-party game everyone can join
The pre-party is there to get things going, and that happens faster with something to gather around. In HowFarOff everyone answers the same question on their own phone, and the closest guess wins. The game is easy to understand, needs no preparation and gets even people who have never met talking.
Up and running in two minutes
One person creates a game on the home page. If you have a TV, it can be the big screen: choose Big screen on the computer or TV, and it shows the QR code, the questions and the reveal to everyone. The others scan the QR code with their phone camera and type their name. No app, no account and no cards to shuffle.
More people arriving later is no problem. When a game ends, the host starts the next one with Play again with the same crew, and anyone who has arrived since joins the lobby before it begins.

Everyone is in, even the newcomers
At a pre-party, not everyone knows each other, and a pre-party game has to work even for someone who doesn't know anyone. Here nobody has to speak up in front of the group or know anything in particular, and everyone guesses at the same time. When the guesses are revealed, everyone has something to comment on, and whoever got closest has bragging rights for the rest of the evening.
Short rounds that suit the pre-party
A game with five questions only takes a few minutes. Play a round while people drop in and another before you head out. The host picks 5, 10, 15, or 20 questions per game and how many seconds everyone has to guess. With the Next question setting, the next question can start by itself, so the host gets to mingle too.
Questions that get people talking
The answer is always a number, and the guesses are what make it fun. Every answer is shown, from the furthest off to the closest, and the wildest guesses tend to become the talk of the evening. Here are two examples that are not in the game:
How tall is the Kaknäs Tower in Stockholm, not counting the mast?

Tips for a great pre-party
- Put the TV or a computer where everyone can see it. That makes the reveal something you share.
- If there are lots of you, play in teams, up to 6. Each team locks in one shared guess or lets the median of everyone's guesses count.
- Pick categories that suit the group, or let the game mix all 10.
- Keep the standings hidden. Nobody knows who is leading until the final, so everyone stays in it to the end.
- Want to get the heart rate up before you go out? Try Workout mode, where the worst guess means the most push-ups or squats.
It works just as well as a party game later in the evening, at the after-party or when a few of you keep going at home. Up to 20 players can join the same game.
