A party game where everyone guesses and the closest wins

HowFarOff is a party game for your phone. Everyone answers the same question at the same time, each on their own. The answer is always a number – how tall, how many, how far – and whoever gets closest wins the round. Nobody needs to know the answer. You just have to guess a little better than everyone else, and that is exactly where the fun starts.

A party game where everyone has a chance

An ordinary party quiz is usually won by whoever knows the most. Here the best guess wins, and that could just as easily be the twelve-year-old as grandma or the new colleague. When the right answer appears, everyone's guesses are revealed one at a time, from the furthest off to the closest. Expect laughter at the wildest guesses and cheers when someone nails it exactly.

That is why the game works at most parties: birthdays, dinner with friends, the office kick-off, the holiday party or New Year's Eve. It works just as well with three people as with 20.

How to get started

  1. One person goes to the home page, taps Create game and becomes the host.
  2. Everyone else scans the QR code with their phone camera or enters the four-character code at howfaroff.com.
  3. The host starts the game, and everyone guesses the same question before time runs out.

It takes a couple of minutes from someone asking "shall we play something?" until the first question is on. Nobody has to download an app or create an account.

The reveal on the TV. The closest guess wins the round.

Example questions

The questions in the game come from 10 categories, from geography and history to space, food and pop culture. Here are two questions in the same style. They are not in the game, so feel free to try them on your friends right away.

Why it works at a party

  • No app. It works like a party game app, but the game runs in the browser on iPhone, Android and computers, so nobody has to download anything.
  • A big screen if you like. Show the questions and the reveal on the TV while everyone guesses on their phone. Without a TV it works just as well.
  • Teams for big groups. Split into up to 6 teams that guess together.
  • Suspense to the end. The standings stay hidden until the final, so nobody knows who is leading until the result is revealed.
  • Just the right length. The host picks 5, 10, 15, or 20 questions per game, so you can play a quick round or keep going all evening.

Choose how you want to play

In Points mode, whoever gets closest scores the most points. Want more action? In Workout mode, the worst guess means the most push-ups, squats or seconds of plank. The host also picks which categories to include and whether the questions are in English or Swedish. Everyone in the game gets the same questions, and each player chooses the language for buttons and text.
